#mARTch

the March ART CHallenge by bweird!

F.A.Q

✷ do i have to draw every day?
nope! the 10 days marked with a star are the main ones! please focus on them and skip any other days you need if you're tired/busy/not interested/falling behind :)

✷ do i have to make polished/finished art?
nope! these prompts are just intended for daily warmup/practice, you don't need to make anything fancy :)

✷ event tag?
#mARTch or #mARTch2025

✷ can you share/promote my entries?
yep! i try to share everything from the tags to @bweirdevents (tumblr) during the event — but tag search sucks sometimes, so if i miss something, sorry! i also can't guarantee i'll share anything on other sites, archiving on tumblr already takes up most of my day!

✷ can i re-upload your prompt list?
PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS — i have accounts on most sites, just reblog/retweet/share from me

2025 prompts

here's this year's prompts! if you're not sure what to draw for a certain prompt, scroll down for tips/ideas/descriptions!

WARM UP WEEK

ease into the event
1: self portrait
draw yourself, or if you're uncomfortable with that — some representation of yourself (like an avatar or sona)
2: inspirations
what inspires you as an artist? other artists you want to emulate, media that's inspired your work, concepts you return to in your art, etc...
(you don't have to draw anything for this day, you can just talk about your inspirations generally)

3: strengths/weaknesses
what are the things you think you're the best at drawing, or come easiest to you? what are the things you struggle with or don't like drawing?
(again, you don't have to draw anything for this one!)

STUDY WEEK

this week is all about practice! draw from reference — photo, real life, stock images, etc! so long as you're studying something, and not drawing from memory
4: object
any object! for the easiest time, pick something already in your workspace
5: animal
for an easy time, draw an animal you really like or already draw a lot... for more of a challenge, pick one you've never drawn before!
6: plant
can be as little as a single leaf, or as much as a whole landscape! it's all up to you :)
7: building
this can be tricky, but it's great perspective practice!
8: hand
pose the one right on front of you however you like, or look up hand references online
9: face
this can be the whole face, or just a single part of it like an eye study or a nose study etc
10: pose
if you can do some IRL life drawing, that's great... but if you can't, there's tons of amazing stock image poses online, and recorded figure drawing sessions on youtube!
all of these don't need to be polished — 5min sketches are ok!

COLOUR WEEK

if it's easier, re-colour the same line-art daily!
11: monochrome
this doesn't mean black-and-white, it can be any hue! all blues? all pinks? all shades of green?
12: complimentary
these are the colours opposite each other on the colour wheel — green and red, yellow and purple, orange and blue, etc. pick a pair and use them as a palette!
13: pastel
light, soft colours
14: neon
bright, vivid, fluorescent colours
15: primary
it's up to you which primary palette — (cyan/magenta/yellow, red/green/blue, red/yellow/blue
16: warm
the half of the colour wheel with red, orange, yellow, brown etc
17: cool
the half of the colour wheel with green, blue, purple etc

VIBES WEEK

interpret these prompts any way you want!
18: shine

19: broken
an item that's physically been broken? a person who's having a rough time emotionally? some other interpretation? it's all up to you...
20: love
💘
21: dark
dark as in "night time" or dark as in "grim and gritty" or just a dark colour palette? your choice!
22: soft

23: anger
put some emotion into it!
24: ancient
crumbling pillars? a really elderly cat? whatever you want...

FUN + GAMES WEEK

for an easier time draw the same subject for days 26-29
25: meme
re-draw a meme image, fill out an art meme, whatever you want! have fun!
26: timed drawing
depending on your workflow you can set ANY time limit you want, so long as you're slightly challenging yourself... if you're someone who takes all day, maybe set an hour. if you're someone who usually takes an hour, set 10min. if you usually take 10min, how about halving that?
27: different art style
try working in the style of another artist you admire, or drawing in the style of a show you like, etc
28: outline only
draw the silhouette only, with nothing inside. is it still recognisable?
29: non-dominant hand or eyes closed
stop taking art seriously and make something "ugly" on purpose!
30: trade, collab or gift
ask a friend to create with you, or create a surprise for someone! if you're shy and this is out of your comfort zone, please try your best... but if you REALLY can't handle it, remember this is one of the skippable days!
31: re-draw your self-portrait!
put all the practice you've done over the month together and try drawing your portrait again ... how has it changed since day 1?
