# mARTch 2026
the March Art Challenge — Prompts by bweird!
F.A.Q
✷ do i have to draw every day?
nope — this isn't that kind of challenge!
i try to keep things laid back and accessible, so you can skip as many days as you need if you're busy, falling behind, or want a break for any reason! there are 10 main days (marked with a star) to anchor yourself through the month, you can just focus on those if you want!
✷ do i have to make finished art?
nope — this challenge is intended for warming up and trying new things more than anything, so quick/unfinished sketches are fine! you can 'polish' your art if you want to, but it's not required at all!
✷ what is the tag for the event?
#mARTch or #mARTch2026 this year! i encourage everyone to spend some time in there appreciating what other people are doing during the event!
✷ can you share/promote my entries?
unfortunately this year i'm gonna have to take a step back from cataloguing entries - sorryyyy!!!
in the past i've shared everything in the tag to my blog @bweirdevents (tumblr) but as the event has grown from a few friends to a few hundred people, it's left me with less and less time to actually participate myself. the blog will remain up as an archive and i'll still try my best to like/interact in the tag and in the discord as much as i can, but my cataloguing days are definitely behind me
✷ can i re-upload your prompt list on another site?
i would really prefer people just use the reblog/retweet/share button instead
2026 prompts
here's this year's prompts! if you're unsure what to draw for a certain prompt, please scroll down for a more detailed description of each in the text version...
INTRO WEEK
your identity as an artist!
1: self portrait (⭐ main day)
draw yourself! (or some representation of yourself, like an avatar/sona/mascot)
2: fav things to draw
what do you like to draw? what do you draw 'best'?
3: inspirations
what makes you want to draw? which artists styles have inspired you? which pieces of media have inspired you?
STUDY WEEK
you can try to draw these realistically/accurately or adapt them into your own style, so long as you draw from reference! (IRL or photo reference are both fine)
4: food (⭐ main day)
5: flower
6: animal
7: hand
8: pose (⭐ main day)
9: object
10: house
COLOUR WEEK
for these, you can re-use the same line art daily if it's easier! working with colour is the main focus here!
11: monochrome (⭐ main day)
this doesn't have to be grey, it can be shades of any one colour!
12: analogous
these are the colours next to each other on the colour wheel (like red-orange-yellow)
13: complementary
these are the colours opposite each other on the colour wheel (like red-green)
14: split complementary
this one's a bit more complicated, but it's sort of a combination of analogous and complementary colours! instead of taking the opposite colour to your main colour, use the colours next to the opposite colour! googling examples of a split complementary palette might be a good idea in this case!
15: pastels (⭐ main day)
the light, soft versions of colours! this one has been a popular prompt in the past so it's a main day prompt this year ^_^
16: jewel tones
the opposite of pastels! darker, more vivid colours (like sapphire blue and ruby red — hence the name!)
17: primary colours
there are a few options for this one!
red-yellow-blue is the set of primaries you might have been taught when you mixed paints as a kid, and they're great if you're going for a nostalgic aesthetic!
there's also red-green-blue, which are the digital/additive/screen primaries! these are the primary colours of how light works!
and then there's cyan-magenta-yellow, which work similarly to RYB but can produce a wider range of colours! these are what printers use!
VIBES WEEK
interpret however you want! these prompts are intentionally vague so that you can show your own creativity...
18: joy (⭐ main day)
19: sharp
20: quiet
21: sea
22: glow (⭐ main day)
23: space
24: abandonned
FUN + GAMES WEEK
fun little challenges to push you outside of your comfort zone!
25: different medium (⭐ main day)
create using a technique you don't usually use! if you usually draw digitally, maybe take out your sketchook? if you usually draw, maybe try painting? etc
26: gift art / trade / collab
do something with another person!!! if you don't have an art partner to do this with, maybe try looking in the event tag for someone to connect with!
27: time limit
how much of a time limit you set is totally up to you and your workflow! if you feel comfortable working quickly, try a short time limit like a minute or two... if you have a longer process, set a more reasonable goal like one hour instead of two, etc
28: different art style (⭐ main day)
try creating something in a totally differnt style than your usual! maybe emulate the style of a show or comic, try and draw like a friend does, or generally just make something that looks like someone else's work
29: eyes closed
by popular demand this is a skippable day, but i encourage you all to give it a try! the result is meant to look funny!
30: non-dominant hand
this is a bit of a cheat day for ambidextrous artists, so if that's you, maybe set yourself a different challenge!
31: self portrait re-draw (⭐ main day)
put all the practice you've done over the month together and try drawing your portrait again ... how has it changed since day 1? are you using techniques you wouldn't have used otherwise?
